Been Sick

Seems like every March for the past few years, one or all of us get something. Last year, I remember being sick the entire month, with the worst being the stomach flu that hit all of us at the same time. I'm very thankful, let me say, that we don't have this.

I've mostly been the one sick, this time with a cold that went into a sinus infection. S has had junk off and on and K has too. But it really hit me hard this past Wed-Thursday and ended up missing work from both of my jobs. My sweet MIL and hubs have been most wonderful in helping with S so I could try to get some rest. I say "try" because it's actually been hard to sleep with being so congested and with such a bad headache 24/7. Even last night, I couldn't rest because I couldn't breath and I think every time I tried to fall asleep, I'd wake up because it was like I was suffocating. I know, gross. So, today, hubs took S to the library and grocery shopping so I could rest, as this junk was finally beginning to break up. Yesterday morning my MIL came and got S so again, I could try to rest. Believe me, I am MOST thankful to both of them for allowing me time to recoop. Hopefully with rest over the weekend, I'll be good to go for next week.

Detergent Debacle

Be amazed.. I'm actually posting twice in one week! And now on to the main topic. So my sweet hubs goes grocery shopping just about every weekend. Yes, he loves to grocery shop and so does Stone so off they go (and I'm very thankful I don't have to typically do it!!) Well, he brings home a 2 gallon container of laundry detergent. I go to put a load in and it's one of those containers you flip on it's side and push the little trigger for it to come out (like a water cooler). I do this and out gushes what looks like water. As you know, detergent is much thicker and usually doesn't gush out. Upon further inspection, I determine it must be water, but I'm pretty dumbfounded... I mean, I just couldn't get my brain wrapped around why there was water in there instead of detergent for about 2 whole minutes.

I call K to come look at it and he suggested that maybe the detergent changed it's consistency. (We got a brand that had a "free and clear" option so we didn't have dies or scents, etc., so the detergent is usually a very clear tinted color. Thus, why we were both confused when we first saw what came out.) I finally put 2 and 2 together and figured that someone must have used the detergent, filled it back up with water and then took it back to w*allyworld to get their money back!! Can you believe that?! I mean, I guess that shouldn't shock me, but it really made me mad that someone did that! Needless to say, we took it back and told them what we thought had happened and they returned it for us. They also said that they had heard of this before. Well, if so, why didn't they check it when it was returned?!? Has anyone out there had a similar experience? Please share....

Another week....

*meant to post this before now, but forgot!! so, actually 2 weeks have flown by since last posting*

....flies by... Can't believe it's gone by so quickly... The week of the 9-13 brought my folks in for a few days to visit and play with Stone. It also somehow brought me a cold. Not fun! I was actually doing well for the longest time and then bam!, it hit me starting around Thursday night. My hubs has been the best, letting me rest extra so that I can hopefully get better before Monday hits again. I can't believe how tired I am, but I guess that's what being sick does to you.

Anyway, had a great visit with my parents and funny enough, Stone had been asking for them several different times before they came. I'm glad he's getting to spend more time with them since we now live closer. We hope to go up during Spring Break, but not sure on all the details of that yet. He also loves to spend time with cousin Nate, and asked where he was when they first got here! So, hopefully, all that will work out and he'll get to spend some quality time with my parents, his cousin, and my siblings in April. As always, we enjoy time with Ma-Ma and Pa-Pa.. just wish I didn't have to work so much so I could actually do fun things with them before they had to leave!

Monday the 16th brought K's first day of work at his new job. Everyone keeps asking if he likes it or thinks he will like it. The answer is yes, but it's just been the first week... lots of training and then, he says that some of his job "duties" will change a bit.. not for the bad, but due to restructuring of the company in general. So, he's had an exhausting week... not been in a normal "work" routine for 2 weeks and before, he didn't have but a 2 minute commute... that has now turned into a 40 minute commute! He's done it before in the past, so not a big deal, but just getting into a new routine has exhausted him, on top of the fact that he caught my cold (as did Stone) so, we are all trying to get over that junk! All in all, he is thankful to have a job, and so am I!! I'm sure he'll start to like it more once things get into place as they should.

As for me, I've settled into my new part-time job that is working in the afternoons: being the director of an after-school program run through a church. We have about 50 kids and 5 other staff members besides myself. These are just elementary kids, whom we pick up on the church's bus after school and bring them back to the church until parents pick up. Then, in the summer, we offer "summer camp" which is full-time child care for those parents who need a safe place for their kids during the summer months. I've been there for almost a month and it's been good.. interesting, but good. My MIL keeps Stone in the afternoons, so we're most grateful to her and my FIL for arranging their schedules to help us out. S has pretty much settled into his new routine as well... preschool in the mornings, lunch, then time with Gigi until K or I get to him in the evening. So, that is our crazy life right now!!

Today, I got to spend some good time with 2 different friends.. and I still need to catch up with 2 other friends. God has blessed us with good friends here, but we now hardly have the time to get together and do things! So, we are working on our schedule to include good quality time with friends, along with getting plenty of rest so we stay healthy. Our life is full, and again, we are thankful and feel very blessed.

Oh, and also found out on Thursday that K's youngest sister is having a girl.. she is due August 25. We are all excited for her and can't wait to meet this new addition to our family. Wish they didn't live so far away either!!

What a Week!

A week ago, we had lots of snow and snow days and sledding! This past weekend and today, it's been in the high 70's and gorgeous weather. But the most exciting news came today around 4pm when Kevin got the call that he got a job!!! He had been working with this company through a recruiter for several weeks and after 3 interviews, we finally got the news. We are so thankful.. especially when our last severance check is coming this week. God's timing, once again, is perfect. The salary is a pay cut, but again, we are thankful for a job in this depressing economy. We know God will continue to provide...

This past Wednesday, my SIL Gini and M and W came for a visit. We always love visits from them of course! I didn't get to spend a lot of time with them, as I had my 2 part-time jobs to attend to, but I was thankful for the time I did get to spend with them. Gini and I even got to go out Sunday night to a movie, without kids or hubbys or anyone else! I love spending time with her which makes me miss her more!

Because the weather was so nice, the kids spent great time outside. Somehow, little miss M came up with an idea to go sledding on... MULCH... yep, that's mulch in the pictures! If you scroll down to the pics below of Stone, K and Pop in the snow, it's in the same spot... my in-laws got blessed with a mountain of free mulch last Fall, so it made a great hill to slide on when we had the snow. I guess M felt left-out cause she wasn't here for all the snow, so she came up with the idea to try sledding on mulch. Gini gave it a try with her, and what do you know? It worked! Ha ha ha haa.. she's a genious! Anyway, it kept them busy Saturday night and I think she did it one other time without Stone in tow. So, that's what the pictures are about below.

Couple of more things happened this week.. had another interview myself. This time, it was for a full-time ministry job. This opportunity just kind of popped up, so we'll see how it plays out. It would definitely be a financial blessing, as well as a great ministry opportunity, so we'll have to wait and see. And on top of all this, our friends found out today as well that the bid they had on a house went through. We are so excited for them! These are great friends of ours that we made right after we moved here. The even better part is that they will only be about 5 minutes away from where we live instead of 20 (which actually makes a difference when you try to schedule play dates/get togethers/kid swaps in our hectic lives and the schedules of kids!) And of course, we are happy for them as this is a house that they really wanted. God has been too good to our families and we sing His praises.

More Snow Pics

Today was another "no school" day... not sure why, other than it being bitter cold, cause the roads are clear, but whatever. We tried playing some more in the snow, but it was powder by this time.. not really good for snow balls, snowmen, or sledding.. so we basically just traipsed about...

Look at the size of this snowball Mommy!

Finally, my one picture take with Stone in the snow,
and he wouldn't even look at the camera!

Our attempt at making a snowman... but snow wasn't good

....still trying....

.....not giving up....

...and still determined.. until we convinced him we
need to go have some pancakes!!

Sledding video

Snow Day!!!

Now this is what I call a snow day! It's funny how much they have canceled school here when there's been little to nothing to talk about. But, Sunday night, the snow came in and we got about 4-5 inches, on top of some ice, so canceling school here was a good idea. (In WV, we probably still would have had school, but I'm not complaining.. I enjoyed the day off!)

Kevin was wonderful this morning and let me sleep in and took Stone out early for his first big play in the snow. I, of course, fussed at him for not getting me up so I could document it with pictures. But, then again, I can't complain because he let me sleep in!! So of course, I don't have pics of that. Right around lunch time, we decided to head over to K's parent's house. They had some sleds and a big hill in the back of the house, plus we love the company, so off we went. The roads weren't bad at all, and by noon, a lot of snow had started melting. Thus why in the pictures it doesn't look like much. However, everything was covered in snow... the trees, grass, houses, etc. It was so beautiful! Too bad we didn't get this for Christmas!

Stone loved it, until he got too cold or got a lot of snow on his person.. then he wanted to head in! I don't have any pictures of me in the snow with him, only because I was too busy taking pictures of him sledding (or trying to capture on video) and by the time I was going to pose with him, he was dead set on going in. We also didn't get to make a snow man, but there's always tomorrow. All in all, it was a great snow day!!

First run down the hill... getting the hang of things!

2nd time.. oh yeah, he's loving this now!
